Secrets of Seeing

Uncover how children see, think and create

Exhibition of CreativeKids’ Methodology & Practice in Children’s Art & Design Education

10th August – 13th September, 2023 • 11 am – 7 pm • PMQ Staunton, Block A / 3F / S309-312

“Can creativity be taught?” This question has sparked curiosity among educators and parents around the world. The Creative Parenting Series invites you to delve into this intriguing question through our enlightening exhibition, “Secrets of Seeing.”

Our exhibition highlights recent mixed media artworks by CreativeKids students, offering a deeper understanding into the creative process of children and the challenges they face. Created with art/design educators and parents in mind, this exhibition aims to encourage the nurturing of children’s inherent creativity.

Creativity is more than a skill—it’s a mindset and a lifestyle. It comes to life when parents actively empower their children. By understanding their developmental stages and gaining new perspectives of their inner world, we can create an environment where creativity thrives.

Join us at PMQ (No. 35 Aberdeen Street, Central) from August 10 to September 13, 2023.

We encourage you not just to instruct, but to inspire. Not just to imitate, but to imagine. Let your child’s unique vision and thinking broaden your perspectives and awaken the dormant artist within you!

The Creative Parenting Series recognizes the significance of fostering children’s creativity. We extend an invitation for you and your child to join our “Docent Guided Tour,” where we will share our valuable insights garnered from over three decades of experience in art and design education.

Join us for a fun and educational Museum Guided Tour and Workshop to create your own masterpiece with your child👨‍👧!
============
🐾The Guided Tour:
▫April 23, 2023 (Sunday)
▫10:00 am – 1:00 pm
▫Hong Kong Museum of Art
▫Conducted in Cantonese
🎨The Workshop:
▫April 30, 2023 (Sunday)
▫2:30 pm – 5:30 pm
▫CreativeKids Museum Studio – Taikoo Shing

Enrich your child’s cultural capital by exposing them to the world of art!
We learned how to appreciate and comprehend works of art, specifically by Joan Miró.
By asking questions such as why Miró used daily objects and materials for his sculptures and why he used collage as his art tools, children and their parents can think deeply about the purpose of art and why it’s important.
This type of learning is not only engaging but also helps develop essential skills, knowledge, and a positive mindset.
The families had the opportunity to continue being inspired by Joan Miró’s art and create their own sculptures.
Let’s inspire our children to explore the world of art and unleash their creativity!

Sketching outdoors with your kids while picnicking? CreativeKids spent a wonderful afternoon @ West Kowloon with the many families doing so in this February. Life sketching coupled with fun games that revolve around one intriguing theme — Hong Kong skyline and skyscrapers.
Hong Kong has one of the most renowned city skylines. All of us happily learned about some great skyscrapers in the skyline through observing and sketching.

In our outdoor sketching workshop, the parents and the children had the opportunity to appreciate and share their views on their own sketches.
Would you have thought learning to appreciate artworks of your child would form a stronger bond with them and understand them better? Parents are role models of their children!

After more than two decades of teaching, Angie is all too familiar with the anxiety many parents associate with the arts. ‘The “Bohemian lifestyle” of some artists really scares a lot of parents. Most people are fearful of the uncertain prospects that come with art-related education. Parents know that creativity is important, but most children are bogged down by academic pursuits.’

Let’s click here to hear what Billy Potts wrote about his art-filled childhood and some anecdotes of his friends who were also Angie’s first students.
